Kanon, Haru, Carol, and Norn each gave their support for my stroll with Miri.
“Then, I shall get to work with the construction of the bath. Sheena No.3-san, may I enlist your aid?”
“Understood, Pionia-san.”
Pionia and Sheena hit it off without me noticing and they left to construct the open-air bath.
“Then, I’ll take everybody’s recommendations and have some family time for the first time in a long time.”
I looked downwards at Miri and nodded.
After exiting My World, I woke up the tied up pirates and told them that I won the match and the fishing grounds were to be split equally. As there wasn’t anybody to verify the conclusion and my armor was already taken off, I wondered what would happen if they claimed that the match was invalid but Miri directly cast Darkness Magic and made a portion of the cliff disappear before pointing her hand towards the pirates and raising her bloodthirst, making the pirates all prostrate on the ground and said “We are glad to have half. Please leave us with our lives.”, appealing for their lives in tears.
I untied Hallock and concluded the mediation between the pirates by having the fishing grounds split equally for the following ten years.
“Gosh, I was shocked to hear that the Demon Lord Miryuu was actually Sensei’s long-lost younger sister.”
Hallock spoke in jest but his legs were clearly trembling.
“I’m sorry for the mess my younger sister made.”
“No no, don’t mention it. You settled the fishing ground problem and besides, you guys gave the pirates on the other side a terrible experience. They said that they would give up on pirating and go on a journey to become monks.”
“Really? Maybe they would run into the former Port Kobe pirates one day.”
I gave a wry smile. I stopped myself from retorting the fact that the Demon Lord actually increased the number of Clergymen.
“Hey, Onii. I wonder how long has it been?”
“Hn? I have ridden on quite a number of boat rides recently.”
“I mean with just the two of us.”
“The two of us … I only recall that boat ride in the park?”
“Ah, that rental boathouse. It filed for bankruptcy last year.”
“You can’t really say the business failed, wasn’t the owner a retired grandfather who only opened the shop out of interest? The boat rental was just a hundred yen after all.”
When I said that, I felt a tear run down my cheek.

I don’t think that’s the case, all she knows is that He never went to go get a job change in that town, which while it may seem like the only conclusion that he is jobless, she also said in the past that when she was ruling as the Demon Lord, she forced a Jobless person to level up, I believe to level 60, so there should not be any reason to think he isn’t jobless.

The notion of not having a “job” is the “ultimate shame” even if your wealthy or have skills that pay bills.
In reality the “Jobless” title is more “boundless” “limitless” or “All the Jobs”
Nothing shamefull… its odd that the author has been pushing this “shame” or “imbarassment” notion for so long, it must be the warped “work ethic” and “cult”ure of shame in Japan.

I think the point is that it’s kind of absurd. I mean your first reaction is that it is absurd so I assume that is what the author intended.
Ichino jumps through all these loops in his head to make himself feel bad about being “jobless” when he actually has a lot of jobs just without official titles.
He’s a caravan guard for Carol.
He’s a monster corpse supplier for Haru to trade.
He’s a therapist for Malina.
He’s a town guard (part-time hehe)
…etc.
He just hasn’t officially taken any of these titles for himself because he doesn’t only do one thing so he doesn’t have “a” job. The story shows that this is stupid.

He doesn’t remember about Marina because she was summoned in this world, so all traces or memories of her disappeared from the people of the world (not from those from another one like Imouto-chan).
I still believe, however that the real Miri is dead and that the Demon Lord Fafnaris (I don’t remember if this is how she was called), after being killed, took her body after Miri (original) said that she would give her everything if she loved and protected Ichinojo.

At some point awhile back, it was said that Miri was originally Kaguya-hime (if I spelled that right). She reincarnated as a demon and eventually become the maou. But the timing for when the maou was killed (something like ten to twelve years ago) syncs up with her age perfectly.
So, to me at least, it wouldn’t make sense that there had ever been another Miri to replace.
But I may just be talking out of my ass too so don’t give it much credence.

If you think about it, her memory of HIM should have been wiped too beyond just Malina’s, but it wasn’t. Somehow, she’s immune to the process of having the universe altered.

My thoughts on why Miri is immune to the memory altering is because of how she was sealed in this world instead of flat out killed. So she retained most of her power, itembox, ect. Otoh Ichinojo’s memory loss isn’t that suprising. He was an average inhabitant of earth even if Miri was his imouto. She may have been protecting her important Onii-san by scaring off any potential interferences, but I doubt it went as far as memory wiping him otherwise she could have just brainwashed him to be her lover from the get go.

Explained in previous chapter: When people get transferred, memories about them get erased from everyone, so there is no sense of incongruity. Miri remembers it because she is from “otherworld”. Small throwback to the beginning: Remember when Ichinojo met one of the goddesses (I believe it was meeting Koshmar for the first time)? Ichinojo asked about Miri and Koshmar was confused and literally said, that there WASN’T supposed to be a sister in his life. She is Famiris, or rather what’s left from reincarnating on Earth imo

It probably wasn’t just because it went under, he had fond memories of the place (the afore mentioned boat ride) and now he can never go back, a lot of people end up crying because of that kind of thing.
Though he very well might have some connection there we haven’t heard of, maybe that elderly couple was his grandparents, maybe they thought of him as their grandson and doted on him.
She likely has manipulated his memories though. Heck, I’d even doubt what she said about the memories of Malina (and even about how they’re transferred), Ichinojo probably saw her fall and “broke” so Miri fixed him by wiping Malina from his memory. After all, if it was made as if they never existed, why would an album exist containing photos taken _because_ they existed?

From RL experience, I can say that what remember you of dead people sometimes is strange. A sound or an apparently unrelated image will trigger it and generate some angst and longing. It is bittersweet.
While the MC old world isn’t “dead”, it is someplace where he will never return. so he feels the same. After all the loss was only some month ago. And having his sister, and only her, at his side make the memories stronger and remove the need to appear strong before his new companions.

I don’t get what you want to go with that boat rental memory. I think the reasoning that all he thought of all this time was Miri was acceptable. Ichinojo not asking useful questions has been his thing for a long time now I think. He can’t remember Malina because all traces of Malina has been erased. Miri can for some reason, just like how she remembered Ichinojo when he was erased. This may be due how she has already reincarnated twice. Again, it is either him not asking useful questions or him being considerate to his younger sister and waiting for her to tell him the story herself.

anyways, things happened and i sent another comment (wasn’t me). so, if Miri could control memories then does that mean that she can sacrifice herself and make it so her brother forgets or do something like kill a guy in plane sight and make them a side character that no one remembers? but doesn’t that mean that it has limitations or she could just make the hero forget about her. in fact, how about the whole port all together? then she could enjoy her time with her brother. i mean, that was her goal in the first place. she could also make it so that nobody notices that they forgot. heck, she could be the real MC all together and take her brothers place so he doesn’t really do anything but thinks he does. but he really is the MC right? thanks again!

I believe that he couldn’t remember Marina because he was originally a person of our world. Miri – likely due to being the demon king in her past life – did not forget her brother even though everyone else in the world did. It’s not weird that Miri would remember someone he forgot.
