Chapter 0709 Abel the Captive IV

At the front of the Union Government Building, Lord Aubrey greeted Abel.
“You have done it now, Your Majesty Abel.”
“Ah, Lord Aubrey. I made a slight change to my entry into the city. I apologize for failing to notify you in advance.”
Lord Aubrey spoke with sarcasm, and Abel answered with a smile.
“I was surprised by the ice podium, but even more than that…”
Lord Aubrey looked at the one hundred and one ice golems following behind Abel.
“Ice Golems have been a great help even on the road, you know. A water-attribute magician really is something else.”
“It’s not about water-attribute magicians being amazing, but Duke Rondo.”
Lord Aubrey’s gaze pierced through Ryo.
Ryo, who had been looked at, turned his face in a completely different direction and pretended not to know.
He also seemed to be pretending to whistle.
Of course, Ryo could not whistle…
Then, an urgent report arrived to the Aide Lamber, who was standing just a little apart from the three of them.
“T-This is…”
“Lamber, what is it?”
“Well, Your Excellency…”
As Lamber approached Lord Aubrey, he glanced briefly toward Abel.
And then Abel understood.
The move he had set in motion through Ryo had become effective.
“Could it be that an escort from the kingdom is requesting permission to cross the border?”
“An escort? Cross the border?”
At Abel’s words, Lord Aubrey asked in puzzlement.
“Yes. Since it would be rude to continue troubling the Union any further after Jayclaire, I called for an escort from the kingdom consisting of myself and the premier duke. They must be requesting permission to enter Union territory.”
“Just as Your Majesty says.”
Lamber said with a nod at Abel’s words.
However, Lamber’s expression remained dark.
“Your Majesty will be safely escorted back to the kingdom by our Union personally, taking full responsibility.”
“No, no, Lord Aubrey, please do not mind it. It seems the escort has already reached the border… so in another two days, they should arrive in Jayclaire. May I have permission for them to cross the border?”
“Well, that is…”
Lord Aubrey was about to grant permission when Lamber’s expression caught his eye.
What lay there was fear.
“Lamber, how many are in that escort?”
“…They say there are ten thousand horsemen.”
“Wha…”
Lord Aubrey was left speechless.
Even if it was an escort for the king, ten thousand horsemen were by no means an ordinary number.
To allow a force of that size to cross the border…
“That is an extremely unreasonable number…”
“I only passed along the information because Lord Aubrey came to escort me with ten thousand horsemen when he visited Marquis Nyusha’s place… I never imagined the kingdom would send ten thousand horsemen as well. Even I was surprised.”
Abel smiled.
This was exactly what it meant to act so brazenly.
Lamber continued reading from the report.
“And the one leading them is the Kingdom of Knightley’s Supreme Knight Commander and chief knight…”
“The elf of the Western Forest, Sera-dono.”
Lord Aubrey had not forgotten that name either.
After all, a nation within the Union had been used as the literal stage for her grand debut into that position.
Soon after Abel and Ryo were sent to the Eastern Countries.
The Stra Marquisate, which was a member of the Union and also held a seat in its central core, the ‘Ten-member Council’, invaded the kingdom.
Lured on by Count Heinlein’s scheme, the Stra Marquisate suffered more than two thousand prisoners, and the Central Countries were shown the formidable existence called Sera.
“Oh, so Sera is coming? I’m glad.”
It was Ryo who let out that happy comment.
“Duke Rondo and Sera are extremely close, you know. That’s why she likely volunteered.”
“No, not really.”
Abel explained with a smile, and Ryo blushed.
In their place, Lord Aubrey and Aide Lamber wore expressions of utter despair.
“What’s with that combination…”
Aide Lamber’s brutally straightforward words reached no one.
Lord Aubrey hesitated.
He was irritated both by the fact that his own plan had been used against him to such effect.
And realistically, it was frightening to let ten thousand kingdom soldiers into the country.
“Sera is the Kingdom of Knightley’s Supreme Knight Commander and chief knight. Since the time of King Richard, known as the ancestor of our kingdom’s revival, no one has held that position. Did you know?”
“No…”
“She has military command authority that surpasses even mine, the king.”
“What did you say…”
“Because she is both the ‘Supreme Knight Commander’ and the ‘chief knight’. In a sense, she is the leader of all knights within the kingdom.”
“…”
Lord Aubrey was left speechless.
“And there is another troublesome person within Union territory, you know?”
Abel smiled as he looked at Ryo.
Ryo wore a cool, composed expression.
“From outside, Sera. From within, Ryo. If it were me, I’d hasten to bring them together and get them out of the country.”
Five seconds later.
“Lamber, grant permission for His Majesty Abel’s escort to cross the border.”
Two days later.
“Ryo!”
“Ugh.”
Sera leapt in with godlike speed and hugged him. After so long, Ryo failed to catch her properly.
Of course, Abel and Lord Aubrey were there as well.
“Uh, um, Sera, Abel and the others are here too, you know.”
“Let them wait.”
“R-Right.”
Sera said this while still clinging to Ryo, and Ryo accepted it too.
Abel said nothing, merely shaking his head slightly.
This was the Grand Training Grounds next to the Union Government Building.
It was the only place large enough to comfortably accommodate ten thousand horsemen from the kingdom.
Just in case, Union troops were standing by outside the Grand Training Grounds in the event of an emergency.
They were standing by, but… Lord Aubrey had sternly ordered them not to make a move unless absolutely necessary.
With Ryo and Sera together, the thought of fighting ten thousand kingdom soldiers was chilling…
After a while, Sera finally stepped away from Ryo and stood before Abel.
“Your Majesty, I have come to receive you.”
Truly, as though nothing at all had happened.
“Now that is what you call a perfect poker face.”
Ryo muttered under his breath, though doubtful anyone heard him.
“Yes, Supreme Knight Commander, good job.”
Abel replied.
Then he turned back.
“Well then, Lord Aubrey, thank you for everything.”
“No, Your Majesty Abel, I am sorry we were not able to show you proper hospitality.”
“Next time, I would very much like to invite you to the royal capital.”
“…If the opportunity arises.”
And so Abel and Ryo departed Jayclaire, escorted by the kingdom’s ten-thousand-horseman force led by Sera, and headed for the kingdom.
